In the last few days, I’ve received more than a couple emails from people concerned that we are headed directly for another civil war. Interestingly though, the people I’ve communicated with have different scenarios in mind.
Some think we’re looking at a race war in the near future, perhaps predicated on the eventual outcome of the Trayvon Martin case in Florida.
Others think it’ll be more of a class war, with the so-called 99% rising up against the 1%.
Still others suggest it’ll be the government against the common citizens.
As for myself, I just don’t know. Strong arguments could be made for or against each of those scenarios. What I do know is this — people in general are…antsy. Most people I know, whether they are preppers or not, report feeling nervous and agitated. People are worried and scared about the future, the economy, and are just generally uneasy.
I’ve also noticed a distinct lack of morality and civility in our society lately. One need only to peruse the comments on a random online news story to see how quickly conversations devolve into personal attacks. Some of that is due to the relative anonymity of posting online, of course. But that aggression is filtering out into “the real world” too and I have to wonder how bad it’ll get before things actually swing the other way.
What say you? Do you think we’re headed for some sort of civil war in the near future?

I don't think a scared society will rise up, the scared tend to hunker down, put their heads in the sand, pull over the blanket, and pray it will all go away. War comes about when people get angry enough, which I only see in a small segemnt that doesn't meet the critical mass to trip a war. Even a repeat of the Rodney King riots from the Martin case would be in small pockets, not country wide. The 99% say they represent 99% of the population, but in fact those that are activists, even those that wish to be represented as being part of the 99%, aren't even 1%. And if the government went to war against the common citizens, where would they then get their income from? The only scenario that I can see actually happening is some states being willing to go to war against the federal government over State's Rights. And in those states, I think the majority of their citizens would back them. First announce their succession and closing their borders, then the defense of those borders.
The disagreement gap is getting wider and the civility is decreasing.
We have always been living on the brink of a civil war. There has never been a moral or civil society. Who's morals and who's ethics? Perhaps we'd be better off if we just re organized the country along religious and cultural lines? Let each group have their own state and leave the rest of us alone. Did you expect every thing to stay the same for ever? All things fall apart eventually. Adapt or die.
I think that the combination of so many issues will give everyone a reason to fight. The civil war 180 years ago was not solely based on the single subject of slavery. There were many issues at stake with states rights being at the forefront. But since to the victor goes the spoils, history remembers it about a struggle over slavery.
History does tend to repeat itself. When those with too much power fail to keep the masses happy, the masses tend to revolt.
The thought of a racial war has been out there as long as I could remember. To this date , it hasn't happened. I think that is because of the intelligence among both races. I think it has something to do with the generation that the races belong to. Today's young people are not taught at nearly the level that the earlier ones were , and I think that leaves us in a dangerous way.
You forgot the possibility of a religious war as well. It seems a growing portion of our society believe that their way is the ONLY way and feel justified in withholding the rights of others. Sadly, these people dont realize that by denying the rights of others, they set themselves up for having their own rights stripped from them.
At any rate, there are any number of reasons for civil war. It all depends on wht circumstances occur that tip the balance in which direction.
"Prepare for the worst, Work for the best."
The problem will be…who is is and who is them?
Current fast spreading Islamic muslims beliefs vs. Christian beliefs…it's been going on for a long time. add Isreal and the Jews into the mix and there you go..WWIII.
