This is a very good point you make and I bet one that would be overlooked by a lot of people. It could be a very bad thing if trying to work this out in a disaster situation. Especially as you rightly point out in the case of extended families.

If emotion can be taken out of this before hand by a little pre-planning everyone and everything will be a lot safer in the long run.

Exactly the thinking I had when I packed away some distracto-toys like these in our bags and vehicles.
We've got Uno cards (the originals, not the new ones, blech), dice, playing cards, 3 or 4 Mad Lib books, bunches of the glow stick bracelets, and so on.
Can't tell you how often I've been able to pull out something like those when needed/wanted, much to the delighted surprise of people I'm with :)

I have 3 different bug out plans. Depending on what we are facing, I can bug in with all of my supplies and weapons, if for example its an EMP and my vehicle doesn't work, I have horses and will meet up with another group of about 15, or plan 3 is heading to the gulf with a boat and finding the uninhabited island I have been researching. :) It will all depend on what we are facing.

Nice article. These days sending your kid in with some snacks and drink is probably what caused the lockdown. Especially if it's home made from your garden! ;)

I see it as a blatant attempt to disarm the nation's largest security force, the US Veteran. So many have had the label PTSD slapped on their medical record, (and a lot deservedly so and deserve all the care the VA can give them and more), and will become needlessly debarred their 2A rights. After all, we have the head of DHS labeling us as homegrown terrorists already.
