The Bible Made Me Do It by Anne-Margaret

I have my mom to thanks for instilling the need to always be prepared,(she’s always been a thrifty gal), and my Bible, which cautions us to be prepared for what’s to come, I thought now would be a good time since it appears that the weather, economy and political entities are conspiring to usher in some terrible times. That was 2010. How to accomplish this and on a limited budget I hadn’t a clue. First things first- get the family involved and on the same page; get debt down, watch spending and recycle- not necessarily just for green reasons, but recycling items on hand that could be used for emergency preparedness.

What I hadn’t expected was my daughter-at twenty-five- almost dying from Kidney failure last year. Now on dialysis, I had to think, wow, what now? How does one survive with the extra worry of medical care for family members in a serious emergency? She took measures and so did we. I started searched the internet for survival gear, and watching videos on preparedness, some of which got me to thinking worst case scenario, would we really be ready? So over the past six months I’ve prepared several B.O.B’s for my family, stored a month’s worth of food, water and medical supplies…and then hurricane Irene came barreling through the Connecticut coastline and tested my family resilience for a week.

Without electricity I smiled inwardly as I watched family members stare with glazed eyes at the blank T.V. and computer screens. As for me, I love my camp stove and gel fuel!

Anne, that is super!! So wonderful to hear that your daughter is still with us. I especially like your last paragraph. It is nice to not only have that inward smile but to also be at peace with the simple things in life,I mean, how cool is that?? Good luck and God Bless you and your family!!
