Scout camping trip gone awry by Bill C.

My boy scout troop went on a camp out this last January. We were planning on doing a 5 day trip but it turned out to be about 2 weeks. Armed with our backpacks which was only packed for enough for a couple of hours. In my pack I had 2 bags of beef jerky, a bag of trail mix, 2 L of water, a zippo, and a pocket Knife. My partner Seth and I were sharing a bag. The day we left we hiked about 10 miles and then the rest of the group.

During the time we set traps, ate rabbits, and tried to to make a fire but it rained every day. Then on the very last day we finally hiked to civilization. The police department had missing signs all over the place. When we went to the police department and they called off the search. They had told us that they had search parties out and they had only found 3 guys. They escorted us home and our parents were happy to see is. We revived our wilderness Survial badge and got a medal of honor.

  1. Sounds like maybe this trip should have been planned better. Why pack for a couple hours on a planned 5 day trip?
You can make a fire in the rain…something to practice up on!

    • Because we were going to practice wilderness Survial and we had our zippo that kept getting wet. The flame kept going out.
